Centre for Agricultural Research and Development
(CIDA)
This government body, attached to the Institute of Quality of La Rioja,
carries out R&D activities in the field of agriculture and agri-food
for the Council for Agriculture and Economic Development. It is divided
into four areas. The Viticulture and Oenology and the Natural resources
sections carry out research along three main lines of investigation: viticulture,
oenology and horticultural crops. The Production section covers the spectrum
of activities related to crop protection, experiments and technical assistance.
Lastly, the Technology Centre section manages the properties owned by
the Autonomous Community of La Rioja, produces the wine of the institutional
winery La Grajera and supervises the Mushroom and Meat Industry technology
centres.
LA GRAJERA Regional Laboratory
This laboratory has a total area of 258.2 hectares, of which 41% are suitable
for farming use. Of the total farmed land, vineyards account for 78.25%,
olive groves for 5.25% and the remaining 16.52% is used for extensive
crop cultivation or left fallow. La Grajera has been using organic farming
methods since 1998 and now cultivates a total of 177.83 hectares in this
way. Many of the activities carried out in the Technology Centres section
of the CIDA are directly related to the management of this property.Control
Board for the Denominación de Origen
Rioja
According to current regulations on the Denominación de Origen
Rioja, the CONTROL BOARD is set up as a regional body of the Ministry
of Agriculture. Its functions include applying these regulations and ensuring
their compliance, promoting and supervising the quality of its wines,
promoting the image of the latter and defending the sector's interests
in social and economic terms by encouraging initiatives to establish interprofessional
agreements.
This body has supervised the development of wines from La Rioja since
the first control body of what would become the Denominación de
Origen, or appellation, was set up by the Royal Decree of 22 October 1926.
Over time, it has acquired the material means and human resources needed
to carry out its aims, as specified in the regulations referred to above.
University of La Rioja
The University of La Rioja is a reference centre for higher education
in the Autonomous Community of La Rioja with over seven thousand specialists
in different fields. Besides its educational programmes, the university

Interprofessional Organisation of Rioja Wine
The Interprofessional Organisation of Rioja Wine (OIPVR) was set up in
2003 to represent and defend the interests of the Rioja wine industry,
in accordance with Article 3 of Law 38/1994 regulating interprofessional
agri-food organisations.
The OIPVR understands that the interprofessional element of the organisation
provides a stable working framework for all of its members. It is a meeting
point where they can express their opinions, and a forum for debating
and adopting important decisions on key aspects of the sector's internal
regulations.
